A disappointing result after a promising start.

This was always going to be a keenly contested game, however Cooke started in a very positive manner. After 10 minutes Cooke took the lead when a break by Jason Lyons with good support play resulted in a try for Alan Gourley which he duely converted. Shortly afterwards he narrowly missed a penalty which had come from good work by the pack at a scrum.

Portadown came back into the game with a score after 25 minutes . Cooke had been awarded a penalty near their own 22, however Kyle Mitchell took a quick tap but became isolated and Portadown scored from the resulting turn over. Ten minutes before half time Andrew Hanna was shown a yellow card for an infringement in play. Portadown scored with the last play of the 1st half when Phil Cartmill opted to chip the ball over the Portadown backs but it was covered by an opposition player allowing them to set up a try which was converted.

Ten minutes into the 2nd half Cooke were back on level terms when Andrew Pollock collected the ball on his own 22 and ran through the Portadown defence to score under the posts.

Cooke players Jason Lyons (Shin) Andrew Hanna (shoulder) suffered knocks which meant players changing positions. Cooke were playing attacking rugby when the Portadown out half intercepted a pass and scored under the posts. Half way through the 2nd half Alan Gourley had the leave the field of play with a leg injury. Andrew Hanna gamely came back on again,as did Jason Lyons when Curtis Montgomery picked up a neck injury. Portadown were able to take advantage of this disruption to the Cooke team and scored another try.

The Cooke players kept pressing hard and Andrew Pollock scored a well taken 2nd try which Phil Cartmil converted to get a valuable losing bonus point.
